Delhi Liquor Booking 48 Hours Rule: What If You Miss Pickup?

When you book liquor through DSIIDC's online system in Delhi, you must collect it in person within 48 hours of paying. What happens to your money if you miss that window has not been announced yet, so the safe move is to cancel before pickup if your plans change.

That one gap is what most people ask about after reading the news. This post explains how the delhi liquor booking 48 hours rule works in daily life, what the QR code does, and how to plan so that you never have to find out what a missed pickup costs.

What is confirmed about the 48 hours

News reports on 27 and 28 October 2026 quoted officials on the basic rules. A DSIIDC status note reported on 28 October added that the system has run since November 2025, with 14,359 transactions worth Rs. 42.83 lakh so far. It is not as new as the headlines made it sound, but the public rulebook is still thin.

Here is what has been reported:

  • You pay online and receive a QR code.

  • You collect the bottles in person within 48 hours of paying.

  • There is no home delivery.

  • You can cancel any time before pickup.

  • There is no return once you have collected.

  • Only DSIIDC shops take these bookings, about 208 of them.

For the full booking flow, read our Delhi Liquor Booking app guide. This post stays with the clock and the QR code.

Before you pay, make sure you are on the real service. Do not pay through a link in a WhatsApp forward or an SMS, and read the name on your UPI screen before you approve. If it shows a private person, stop.

When the clock starts, and why it feels shorter

Reports say the 48 hours run from the time you pay. That makes the sum easy. If you pay at 8 pm on Friday, your window should close at 8 pm on Sunday.

The usable time is shorter than that. A shop is not open through the night, so part of those 48 hours is time when nobody can scan your code. Booking hours and the exact rule for a window that ends after closing time have not been announced yet. Treat the last shop closing before your deadline as your real deadline.

Dry days need a thought as well. If a dry day falls inside your window, how the system treats that booking is not announced yet. Check the calendar before you pay, and do not book into one.

What the QR code does at the counter

The QR code is your proof of booking. At the shop, the operator scans it, the system checks it, and you collect your bottles. The DSIIDC status note, as carried by news agency copy, also says customers collect after OTP verification. So keep the phone number you booked with on you.

A few small habits will save you a second trip:

  • Take a screenshot of the QR code when you get it. Shop areas can have weak mobile signal.

  • Keep your phone charged, and keep the booking number's SIM with you.

  • Note the shop name you chose. Your booking is tied to the shop you picked, so going to another shop may not work. Check this on your booking screen.

  • Carry a government photo ID that shows your date of birth. Which ID is checked has not been announced yet, but the buyer must be 25 or older.

  • Keep the payment message until you have the bottles and the bill in your hand.

The small story of a missed pickup

Think of Karan in Mayur Vihar. On Friday evening he books two bottles for Saturday night and pays. On Saturday his day runs long, and friends cancel. On Sunday he remembers at 9 pm, when his window has less than an hour left and the shop is across town.

Now he has three questions and nobody to ask. Is the money gone? Will it come back, and when? Can he still walk in tomorrow with the QR code? None of these has a public answer yet.

Karan's mistake was not the booking. It was leaving the decision until the end. If he had cancelled on Sunday morning, he would have used the one option the reported rules clearly give him. Set a phone reminder for 24 hours after you pay. That is your moment to collect or cancel.

What has not been announced yet

We looked for answers to these on 2 November 2026 and did not find a published rule. Open magazine also noted on 29 October that rules on uncollected orders, refunds and complaints should be made public.

  • A missed pickup. Whether the money is refunded, kept in part, or kept in full is not announced yet.

  • Refund time. How long a refund takes after you cancel is not announced yet.

  • Complaints. A public complaint route for a failed scan or a stuck payment is not announced yet. Keep your screenshots, and speak to the shop first.

  • Sending someone else. Reports say you collect in person. Whether a family member can collect with your QR code is not announced yet, so plan to go yourself.

  • Stock. What happens if the shop does not have your bottle when you arrive is not announced yet.

We will update this post when DSIIDC or the Delhi excise department publishes more. If anyone gives you a confident answer to these questions, ask them where it is written.

When 48 hours is the wrong tool

The booking suits one person picking up a few bottles for the coming weekend. It suits a party less well, because the plan changes more often and the quantity is bigger.

Remember the second limit as well. Delhi's personal possession limit at home is 9 litres. A party above that, or any party at a banquet hall or farmhouse, needs a P-10 licence from the excise department, and the fee page lists Rs. 7,500 or Rs. 15,000 depending on the place. The licence comes first, and the shop bills are kept at the venue.

Barmen does this work for parties and weddings in Delhi. It handles the P-10, the quantity plan, the bar and the bartenders. The liquor is bought from Delhi licensed shops, and service follows the 25+ rule. Barmen does not bring liquor from Haryana into Delhi.

Gurugram is a different state with its own rules, and the DSIIDC shops are all in Delhi. Barmen runs a runner service there. You appoint a runner, you pay the licensed shop directly, and the bill is in your name. It covers Golf Course Road up to Sun City, DLF Phase 1 to 5, Sushant Lok and Galleria.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the delhi liquor booking 48 hours rule?

After you pay online for a booking at a DSIIDC shop, you must collect the bottles in person within 48 hours. You show the QR code at the shop, the operator scans it, and you take your order. There is no home delivery, and there is no return after you collect.

What happens if I miss the 48-hour pickup?

This has not been announced yet. No published rule says whether the money is refunded, partly kept or fully kept. Reports say you can cancel any time before pickup, so if you think you may miss the window, cancelling before it closes is the safer choice for now.

Can someone else collect my booking?

Reports say the buyer collects in person, and the buyer must be 25 or older. Whether a family member can collect with your QR code has not been announced yet. Plan to go yourself, carry a government photo ID, and keep the phone number you booked with on you.

Does the QR code work without internet?

A screenshot gives the operator a code to scan even when your signal is weak, so take one when you get it. Agency reports also mention OTP verification at collection, which may need your phone to receive a message. Keep your booking number active and your phone charged when you go.

How long does a refund take if I cancel?

The refund time has not been announced yet. Reports confirm that you can cancel before pickup, but they do not say how many days the money takes or how it comes back. Keep your payment message and the cancellation screen until the amount shows in your account.

I live in Gurugram. What are my options?
